Mistake

By acappellaontheworld

Last Thursday I made the worst mistake as a teacher since writing on a secondary school board “dreems” instead of… everyone knows… – those many years ago.
This time I somehow dictated “a nip” instead of “a nap”.

Well, it was an evening, and, after a long journey, I was myself in desperate need of some sleep.
But still, such a lapse – shame.

So, nip a nap early enough
and be spring-conscious later ;/

My friend is teaching programming in France (in french). Her students was very suprised, when she used word “strings” for… strings (in english, but not in french) :)

Yes, the French tend to take it for granted that all the “interesting words” (i.e. those for love making, lingerie, other accessories of that type…) – are of French origin :)

English word ’string’ in computer programming, is a ‘text’ (an ordered set of characters).
But in french ’string’ is only a kind of pants.

As it happens, the French I know are either scientists or at least well-informed. So the only issue here is the pronunciation… ;) :)
