Last Thursday I made the worst mistake as a teacher since writing on a secondary school board “dreems” instead of… everyone knows… – those many years ago.
This time I somehow dictated “a nip” instead of “a nap”.
Well, it was an evening, and, after a long journey, I was myself in desperate need of some sleep.
But still, such a lapse – shame.
So, nip a nap early enough
and be spring-conscious later ;/

My friend is teaching programming in France (in french). Her students was very suprised, when she used word “strings” for… strings (in english, but not in french)

Yes, the French tend to take it for granted that all the “interesting words” (i.e. those for love making, lingerie, other accessories of that type…) – are of French origin

English word ’string’ in computer programming, is a ‘text’ (an ordered set of characters).
But in french ’string’ is only a kind of pants.

As it happens, the French I know are either scientists or at least well-informed. So the only issue here is the pronunciation…
